Short Nose, long nose, it all goes. We won’t turn our collective nose up at any Ferrari, especially one so nice as this 1965 275 GTB short nose.

We can’t tell you who told us, but this gem went to a dealer in Germany who paid $730,000 to take her home. The market for mediocre vintage cars may be softer than Paul Blart, but exquisite models are still selling. This one was one of the best — a “platinum” car almost as good as the day it rolled out of Maranello.

“To achieve platinum, a Ferrari has to score 95 points or better by the Ferrari Club of America’s tough test, an ultra–high standard for any older Ferrari, and a standard that very few will ever meet,” said Michael Sheehan of Ferraris-online.com.

When the 275 GTB Short Nose first came out, the nose of the car started to lift between 125 and 135 mph, so Ferrari moved the 3.3-liter engine forward for better weight distribution. Coachbuilder Scaglietti reworked the gorgeous bodywork — designed by Pininfarina — accordingly.

The Ferrari 275 line is one of the most desirable among collectors. And while the short noses may be the least sought-after of the 275s, they’re still sublime. Just look at that profile. Gorgeous. And there’s nothing like the sound of a Ferrari V12.

We usually know the story behind the photos we feature in our WTF? photo-caption contests. That isn’t the case with this picture, which makes pure conjecture a lot more fun.

We came across a photo of what’s billed as an experimental pizza-delivery vehicle on display at an automotive museum in South Dakota. When we call for a pie, we expect to see a clapped-out ‘93 Sentra with mismatched tires, but clearly Domino’s and Triton envisioned a better world where giant dustbusters ferry pizzas in 30 minutes or less.

Folks from Domino’s and the Pioneer Auto Show must not be fans of our previous contests, since they haven’t sullied their reputations by responding to repeated requests for more information. That means its up to you to contribute a hilarious fictional history of a car that makes us ask, WTF?

We know nothing about this car. Aside from the famous logo on the hood, the only other clue we have to go on is the plaque in front of the car. It reads, “Triton No 1. Experimental Pizza Car. Presented to Famous Pioneer Auto Show, Murdo So. Dak. by Tom Monaghan, Founder of Dominos [sic] Pizza and owner of the Detroit Tigers.”

Monaghan, the ultra-conservative Catholic philanthropist who sold the Tigers in 1992, is no slouch when it comes to cars. For awhile, he was an owner of one of the world’s rarest automobiles, the legendary Bugatti Royale. Monaghan has financed a lot of his personal passions, from a Catholic law school to an island enclave of homes based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s designs, so we wouldn’t be surprised if he took development of the car seriously.

You know the rules: Contribute a caption and an e-mail address. Best caption wins a prize. No e-mail address, no prize. The contest ends when we say so, and readers who fail to avoid the Noid will be disqualified. Use the Reddit widget below to submit a caption and vote for your fave.
